ACC Sunday School Ministry
Goals
Asbury Community Chapel's Sunday school involves children ages two through 8th Grade. Our desire is to provide a safe, secure and loving environment where children feel welcome and parents feel comfortable leaving their children. Specific goals of our Sunday School include:
- encouraging children to begin and to grow in a personal relationship with Jesus,
- to acquire a rich understanding of God's Word and its application to their daily lives, and
- to develop a lifestyle of worship, obedience and continual reliance on Jesus.
We also want to provide fun opportunities for the children to serve God at whatever age they are, to develop friendships, and to reach out to their friends and neighbors. We, who serve in the program, consider it a privilege to partner with parents in the spiritual growth of their children.
About the Program
The ministry runs concurrently with the Family Bible Hour each Sunday, 11:00 am -12:00 pm. Our Sunday School is based on the school calendar year. Each classroom has been designed to meet the developmental needs of children as they grow and progress throughout the year. Children are placed into age-appropriate classes on the day of our Fall Kickoff and will remain there until the following September.
Visitors….Welcome!
Your child will receive a friendly welcome, a small gift and an escort to their classroom. We are happy that you are with us!
About the Curriculum
Our children's program is currently using curriculum by Desiring God Ministries. Our leaders are devoted to the teaching of God's Word and desire to see each child grow in their knowledge of and love for our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe the Desiring God curriculum helps us to achieve our goals.
Quotes from childrendesiringgod.com
"The greatest need children have is to know and cherish the infinite value of God. Therefore, we want children to become so acquainted with the Word of God that they treasure Him alone as the One who saves and satisfies the heart. The goal of our curriculum is to fuel spiritual desire in children by exalting the greatness and worth of God and His glorious work through Christ.""We believe that the Bible is a book first and foremost about God. The other characters in the Bible merely point to God. So in our curriculum, we have attempted to exalt God--to show Him as a great and almighty God. In every lesson, Scripture is studied in the context of the question, "What does this say about God?"
"We believe that children can handle deep truth at a young age. We want to fill them with solid Bible truth that will give them a foundation to fall back on when they go through deep waters. For this reason, the curriculum continually refers children to the Word of God; Bibles are an essential tool for children studying Children Desiring God curriculum. We believe that the Bible must be taught in depth, yet in a child-friendly, interesting manner. For this reason, much attention has been devoted to the development of creative presentation of essential Bible truths."
